Rational Arguments & Religion – Water & Oil

One of the most loathsome activities I take pleasure in has to be reading and or watching debates and discussion relating to religion. My idols in this realm are Dawkins, Hitchens, and Sam Harris; each of whom have anti-religious fervor that I can only compare to zealots of the other extreme. It never ceases to amaze me when I see a religious person stutter or repeat some other meaningless statement that has no bearing on the discussion, or worse yet – direct the reader to the bible…

Well, It occurred to me a while ago that it was high time that religion and debate about it came to an end. It seemed to me to be completely devoid of purpose because rarely do people of faith get converted by showing them truth or fact. Many actually get more faith and believe their previous engagement counts as a sort of test to confirm their faith. Many of the people that are being debated are, of course, out of their minds with god and would rather believe in her tome than to believe that they could live without it. Regardless, its time my favorite medical doctor had a word in on things…

In last Tuesdays episode, our good, bad doctor Gregory House took the time to discuss the mormon faith with an applicant. The gist of what it came down to is in the final moments of the clip you will find below…

Rational arguments don’t usually work for religious people, otherwise there would be no religious people.
