The downside of Academic Freedom

In my recent paper on academic freedom I argued the position that educators were in need of the freedom in an effort to provide themselves with the ability to research and teach any topic they chose. I failed to realize that there are, apparently, those who are lazy and or ignorant and would take advantage of this in a second manner – the freedom not to teach topics on grounds that they are controversial. Its quite sad when instructors pressure for legislature to provide them with legal grounds to avoid instruction on evolution, or anything else for that matter.

Our education system is in need of a major overhaul.
