Nothing

I awoke in a cold sweat.
My heart was beating rampant.
My eyes darting around in the darkness,
hoping for a reflection of something.

Nothing, darkness, all he could see.
He closed his eyes, only to awaken again.
Nothing he could do about it.
His sweat was permeating his clothing.

The bed was moist as well.
His sweat was soaked into it.
He licked his lips, salty,
but better than the bland flavors his eyes were tasting

He closed his eyes again.
Into the world of pain and darkness,
no time to cry, or feel sorry.
Fear of loss all about him as he was running.

Got to get away.
To reality, something tangible
he sat up again, still dark
no sun, no light, still stinging.
